Regrettably, because of the hostilities the featured artists and writers, Jalal Toufic and Bilal Khbeiz, are unable to leave Beirut. We are aiming to reschedule in September in the hope that Jalal Toufic and Bilal Khbeiz will be able to travel by then. However, we will confirm this new date closer to the time.
Who’s Afraid of Representation - Friday 11 August @ 7.30pm
Written and directed by Rabih Mroué (Lebanon), Who’s Afraid of Representation examines the meaning of a ‘public body’ and a ‘private body’ through two distinct stories. With fellow performer, Lina Saneh, Mroué first presents a real story about a Lebanese employee who killed his 25 year-old colleague for political, social and religious reasons. The second story is based on violent body artworks produced by artists in the 60s and 70s. The entire work is a reflection about the problematic nature of individualism in rigid Lebanese society and how artists represent these issues.
Book through the Sydney Opera House Website.
